Alan Barry Ashton
Alan Barry Ashton, age 67, was born in Savannah, Georgia, on November 8th, 1956, to his beloved parents, Ralph Jimmy Ashton and Joyce Marie Coleman, and passed away peacefully in Cumberland, Tennessee, on October 11th, 2024.
He is survived by his daughters, Chelsea and Husband Alex Defur, and Kirsten Hodges; his beloved grandchildren, Jayden Hendershot, Zoey Ashton, Chloe Pols, Emma Grimes, Scarlette Ashton, and Maci Defur; his siblings, Melinda Bruce, and Larry and Terri Ashton; Sister in law; Joni Ashton, his special nieces and nephews, Ricky Bruce, Sarah McKie, Lauren Ashton-Magnusson, William Ashton, and Emily Ashton, his uncle, Linnis Coleman and Bobbie Coleman, and the mother of his children, Jane McKie.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Jimmy Ashton and Joyce Marie Coleman; his daughter, Shelley Ashton, and his brother, Greg Ashton.
A man of exceptional work ethic, Alan dedicated his life to hard work and integrity. He spent many years in the oil fields and tugboats, where he earned respect for his commitment and skill. His expertise as a diesel mechanic for Moby Marine showcased his relentless determination and dedication to his craft. Alan was known for going above and beyond, often putting in long hours to ensure that tasks were completed to the highest standard.
Family was at the heart of Alan’s life. He loved spending quality time with his daughters and grandchildren, creating lasting memories during weekend outings on the boat, camping trips, and fishing adventures. Riding motorcycles and jet skis together brought him immense joy, as did evenings filled with laughter and delicious meals, especially his favorite lobster tail. His playful spirit and sense of humor made every gathering special, and he was always ready with a joke or a story to entertain his loved ones. Whenever misadventures led to injury, his loving daughter, affectionately known as "Dr. Chelsea," was always there to care for him.
