Dr. Brenda J. Rainwater-Bryant, a resident of Waynesboro, Mississippi passed away after a brief struggle with uterine cancer at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville Tennessee. Brenda recently retired from the Baltimore County schools and lived in Towson/Timonium, Maryland area for almost 30 years. Brenda was born May 24, 1951 in Waynesboro, MS to the late Rush and Zeline Rainwater. Brenda spent the better part of her life as an educator of young children. She held a Bachelors and Masters degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. She received a Doctorate of Education in Special Education from the University of Memphis. She worked in institutions serving disabled children and public schools in both Mississippi and Maryland as a teacher and administrator for 38 years. She also taught university and college courses in several Maryland institutions of higher education such as Johns Hopkins University. After a life dedicated to children and families, Brenda retired. In July 2011, Brenda and her husband Greg packed their motorhome, sold their Baltimore house and possessions and explored the American ancient Indian sites and museums. During the past 17 months, they traveled 17, 000 miles visiting 17 states, all east of the Mississippi. They also drove almost 33, 000 miles in the car they towed behind the RV. Nearly 50, 000 miles dedicated to learning about our wonderful country, the United States and its ancient past. Her husband Dr. Greg Bryant, a retired Towson University professor of education, and her daughter Jennifer Rainwater Bryant of Hermitage, TN., and the two dogs, Buster and Heidy survive Dr. Rainwater-Bryant. Donations in her honor may be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers. A memorial service will be held at the New Hope United Methodist Church on December 28, 2012 at 1 pm.
