Mr. Carl Lee Hughes, age 83, a resident of Columbia passed away Saturday November 12, 2011 at Good Samaritan Heath and Rehabilitation Center in Antioch. Mr. Hughes was born December 22, 1927 in Forrest, Mississippi to the late Otho and Eddie Hughes. For most of Carl’s life he worked construction, from helping to construct some of the world famous casinos in Las Vegas to working for the City of Detroit helping to build the Harper Hospital. Carl enjoyed coffee with his buddies in the early hours of the morning at McDonalds or otherwise described by his sister as “Having their coffee and telling tales!” Mr. Hughes is survived by his three daughters: Gale Wiley, Helen Hughes, and Alexia Johnson; Five sons: Jerome Hughes, Ed Hughes, Barry Hughes, Boyd Hughes, Daniel Hughes, and the late Carl Lee Hughes Jr., all of Detroit; Three siblings: Flora Morgan of Southgate, MI, Ollie E. Mckinney of Columbia, TN, and George Hughes of California. Along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
