Catherine Smith Gracy

Catherine Smith Gracy, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. She is survived by her 5 children, Debbie Gracy Smith (Steve), Susan Gracy Hewes (Collins), Cathy Gracy Kermicle, James Page Gracy Jr. (Nita), and Anita Gracy Jacky (Tom). She leaves 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren with 2 more arriving in April.

Catherine was born on March 30, 1932, to Al and Cornelia Smith in Jellico, Tennessee. She received her nursing degree at Baptist Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee where she met the love of her life, James Page Gracy, Sr. They were married for 59 years.

She came to know her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as a young girl at First Baptist Church, Jellico. She was an active member of Priest Lake Presbyterian Church in Nashville for many years. Catherine devoted her life to her 5 children. She cooked, sewed, and chauffeured for all the children’s activities. She made it a point to make everyone feel special, always hosting the entire family for birthdays and Christmas. A long hug was included with every occasion. She loved having a house full and was a second mother to many of her children’s friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alive Hospice 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN 37203. A private family service will be held on a later date.
