Edward Fred Guettler, born on February 16, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, peacefully passed away on January 5, 2024, in Spring Hill, Tennessee.
Ed was a man of diverse pursuits throughout his life: avid reader, golfer, Cubs fan, quilter, cross-stitcher, singer, bird watcher, pencil puzzler, family road-tripper, and dozens more. He studied to become a Lutheran pastor before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a translator. Later, he worked briefly as a teacher, and eventually retired from Morton International as a systems analyst.
Ed is survived by his loving children: Lea Anne (Michael Merline) Stoughton, Lesley (John) Flakus, and Steve (Deanna) Guettler; six grandchildren: Phoebe, Drew, Ricky, Anastasia, Anabella, and Edward; one great grandchild, Bentley; his partner, Arlene Blanche Mowry; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Guettler and Ann Griesman; his stepmother, Ludmilla; his sister, Shirley; and his beloved wife, Anne Skaritka Guettler.
A memorial service will be held later this year in the Chicago area to celebrate Ed’s life.
May he rest in eternal peace.
