John Wayne Pollitt, known affectionately to friends and family as John, passed away on April 16, 2025, in Columbia, Tennessee, after a valiant battle with Stage 4 Colon Cancer. Born on Christmas Day in 1963, in the coastal town of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, John's life was a testament to the power of love, humor, and wisdom, which he generously shared with everyone he encountered.
John's early years were spent under the Floridian sun, where he was born to Milam Virginia Pollitt and John W. Pollitt, both of whom have predeceased him, as have his siblings, Elsie Olsen, Vicki Wheeler, and Roger Pollitt. Despite such losses, John's resilient spirit and warm heart carried him through life's challenges, allowing him to form a beautiful family of his own. He leaves behind his cherished daughters, Melissa Mcgraw and her husband Jimmie Mcgraw II, along with their children, Jimmie and Chevy; Kimberly Blair, her husband Scottie Blair, and their children, Logan, Bella, Bo, and Daniel; and his beloved son, Daniel Pollitt, who is the father of four wonderful children.
John's professional life was dedicated to serving others as a funeral home director, a role in which he provided comfort and solace to countless families during their times of greatest need. His compassionate nature and the ability to find the right words made him a pillar in the community and a respected figure among his colleagues and those he helped.
Beyond his work, John's passions were simple yet profound. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, embracing every moment as a treasure. His love for sitting outside, enjoying the tranquility of nature, and watching animals roam was a source of peace and contentment for him. John also had a fondness for snacks, a small pleasure that he never outgrew and always enjoyed sharing with his loved ones during their visits.
Those who knew John would describe him as loving, funny, and wise. His laughter was infectious, his advice sound, and his presence a comfort. He had an uncanny ability to lighten the mood with his humor, yet he could offer the sagest advice when it was most needed. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children... to leave the world a bit better... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." By Emerson's standards, it is without a doubt that John succeeded in life.
John's memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories told by his family, the laughter shared among friends, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness and empathy. His legacy is one of love and laughter, and the wisdom he imparted will continue to guide those he has left behind.
As we bid farewell to John Wayne Pollitt, we reflect on a life well-lived—a life full of joy, dedication, and the unwavering love of a father, grandfather, and friend. Though he may be gone from our sight, his spirit remains a guiding light in the lives of all who were blessed to know him.
John's life will be celebrated in a private ceremony, as per his wishes. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, reunited with his departed loved ones, and they will continue to honor his memory by living out the values he embodied. John Wayne Pollitt will be deeply missed, but the imprint he left on this world will never fade.
