Jorge A. Alea, M.D., born December 15, 1930 in Gibara, Cuba, and a longtime resident of Atlantis, FL, passed away peacefully at his home in Murfreesboro, TN, on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at the age of 94. He was preceded by his loving wife, Barbara. After graduating from the University of Georgia and the Medical College of Georgia, being the first Cuban-born student to accomplish this, he practiced internal medicine in Buffalo, New York and Detroit, Michigan. He was best known as a gastroenterologist in Palm Beach County for over 33 years, helping start Palm Beach Regional Hospital, as well as serving as their Chief of Medicine.
A retired Captain in the US Army Medical Corps National Guard, he was honored on lists such as Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Best Doctors in America, and Who’s Who in the World.
He was a deacon at First Baptist Church, West Palm Beach where he and his wife were active in the founding of Palm Beach Atlantic College, now a University.
He is survived by his son Craig Alea of Murfreesboro, TN, his daughter Karen Alea Ford and her husband, Colin, of Franklin, TN; four grandchildren, Aric Alea, Tasmin Ford, Isabella Alea Crawford (husband, Ashton) and Sofia Ford.
