Gordon, Margaret Amon Thompsonage 87after a five year battle with vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Margaret was born June 13, 1925 in Enterprise, Oregon, the only child of Amon Butler Thompson and Margaret Ellen Rogers Thompson. Margaret was a life-long learner, a voracious reader and a passionate traveler. She was the valedictorian of the 1943 graduating class of Enterprise High School. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Oregon in Eugene in 1948. After graduating from college Margaret taught school for a year in Heppner, Washington. She then accepted a teaching position in Wallace, Idaho where she taught English and Spanish. It was while living in Northern Idaho that Margaret met her great love Robert Glenn Gordon while chaperoning a high school dance. She often told of thinking “the party is looking up” when she first saw him walk through the door where he was also serving as a chaperone for young people. Margaret married Bob Gordon on June 26, 1950. A devoted wife and loving mother, Margaret was a great believer in the importance of education and in helping others. She fed that passion after moving to Knoxville with her membership in the PEO sisterhood, as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church parish, and as a tireless and devoted worker for The Ladies of Charity thrift store in Knoxville. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bob Gordon, daughter in law Valerie Gordon, and her grandson Edward Gordon of Knoxville. She is survived by her children, Mark Gordon of Knoxville; Robert Gordon of Leesburg, VA; Meg Gordon Crisp John of Brentwood, TN; Elizabeth Gordon Mitchell Jim of Fayetteville, AR; daughter in law, Wendy Bebie of Round Hill, VA; and 11 grandchildren: Yvonne Treece and Matt Gordon; Mike, Kate and Andrew Gordon; John, Megan and Leslie Crisp; Mitch, Gordon and Grace Mitchell; and several great-grandchildren. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff and particularly the PALS and caregivers at Belmont Village Assisted Living for their incredibly loving care of our mother, to the staff of ALIVE Hospice, and Dr. David Heusinkveld and his staff. A celebration of the life of Margaret Gordon will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Knoxville on Saturday, November 10th at 11:00 am. Visitation with the family will be held following the funeral mass. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to The Ladies of Charity, 120 West Baxter Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37917.
