Michael “Mike” Lawrence Teeter, 67, died on March 27, 2015, at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.
Born August 10, 1947 in Zanesville, Ohio, Mike was a 1965 graduate of New Lexington High School. Mike volunteered to join the combat forces of the Marine Corps during the height of the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart twice. Mike suffered from myriad health issue for decades, many of which he attributed to his exposure to Agent Orange while in Vietnam.
Mike’s service with and to veterans remained a lifelong cause as demonstrated by his membership in the VFW, the American Legion, the Rolling Thunder, and his service as the State Treasurer of Tennessee of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and Treasurer of his Local Chapter of DAV in Nashville. In his leisure time, Mike loved riding his Harley – often with others in the Harley Owners Group (HOG), playing golf, shooting pool, and listening to the Blues.
A former underground coal miner, Mike went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Following his graduation, Mike worked as a financial analyst for EDS, a multinational information and technology company and subsidiary of GM. Thereafter, Mike worked as a financial planner for the Saturn Company at its corporate headquarters in Spring Hill, Tennessee, where he organized and ran a billiards league for several years.
Mike is survived by his wife Trang Teeter of Hendersonville, Tennessee; mother Evelyn Cotterman of New Lexington, Ohio; son Michael Zane Teeter of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; Zane’s mother, Jeanne Herrin Teeter of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; step-sons Bill and Boone of Hendersonville, Tennessee; brother and sister-in-law Dave Cotterman and Paula Hatem Cotterman of New Lexington, Ohio; sister Lisa Cotterman Green of Shepherdstown, West Virginia; sister and brother-in-law Ruth Teeter Crawford and Marcus Crawford of Grovetown, Georgia; step-sister and her husband Connie Teeter Montag and Ken Montag of Bremen, Ohio; cousins Ted Stimmel (Judy) of New Lexington, Ohio and Evelyn “Puz” Stimmel Moyer (Don) of Zanesville Ohio; nieces Jessica T. Green Miller (Brian) of San Francisco, California, Rachel Cotterman Smith (Todd) of Middleburg Heights, Ohio, Camran Contanzarite (Jacob) of Denver, Colorado, Kathryn Barnett of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Michelle Craig of Bremen, Ohio; and nephew Christopher Mulliss. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Teeter; maternal grandmother Freda Stimmel; maternal grandfather Franklin Seymour Stimmel; and paternal grandparents Earl and Ruth Teeter.
The family will visit with friends on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 PM at First Apostolic Church, 265 Broadmoor Drive, Nashville, TN, 37207. Funeral Services will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. on April 1, 2015. Burial procession, escorted by Rolling Thunder ®, Inc. Chapter Tennessee 1, will be held on April 2, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. starting at First Apostolic Church proceeding to Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery with interment to follow at 10:00 a.m.
