Tina “Sugar” Louise McClaran. Born June 29, 1966, Died June 28, 2014. She is survived by her partner, Shay McLean, her son Stephen T. Lee, and her brother Michael L. Blaustone. Sugar earned her PhD in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and practiced up until about 1999. An accomplished cook, Sugar did private catering for a time, and was well known for her soups and fabulous cheesecakes. She loved to read and did so often – when entranced by a really good book, she would force herself to read smaller passages, just to make the joy last longer. Her animals were her babies, and I think she loved them more than she did most people. In Sugar’s mind, every pet was a rescue and those pets weren’t just pets, they were family. She loved them unconditionally and they loved her right back. One of Sugar’s passions was helping people – friends or complete strangers, it made no difference. Sugar was always supportive and ready with positive, encouraging words for anyone in need of it, and would go out of her way if she thought she could help someone out. Sugar was truly a selfless person of goodwill. She gave without question, never asking for anything in return. She was a beauty – inside and out – and will be sorely missed by the countless people whose hearts she touched during her life. Arrangements for a memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers or memorials, the family asks that donations be made in Sugar’s name to the National Fibromyalgia Research Association.
