Talking to funeral homes in Dickson, TN., about your loved one’s arrangements is never an easy thing to get through. Grief will strike and strike hard. While grieving is a process that actually helps us heal, it doesn’t make going through it any easier. Although it may not feel like it, there are actually ways to help grieve in a healthy way.
Grieving in a healthy way is going to ensure you come out on the other side with closure and clarity. There are phases to grief and, although you may go through them in no particular order, the outcome is for you to have accepted and be able to feel hopeful once again about the future. Taking healthy steps to work through your grief in healthy ways helps reach these end goals.
One healthy way we are going to talk about today is using meditation to help with your grief. With meditation, you get a chance to get outside of your own head and let your thoughts quiet down. Thie quiet time provided by meditation has proven effects on the body such as lowering stress as well as blood pressure. It can leave you with a feeling of calm and being more “grounded”.
Don’t worry if you have never meditated before as this does not have to be anything complicated or over spiritual. It is simply sitting quietly and focusing inward.
There are many ways you can meditate. One of the easiest is to simply sit on the floor with your legs crossed or, if it’s more comfortable, sit in a chair with your feet flat on the ground and your back straight. Close your eyes and breathe slowly and deeply in and out through your nose.
As you breathe, start to do a body scan beginning at your feet. Notice how your feet feel. Is there any tension? Release it. Next, move up to your ankles, your calves, and so on. Notice how each body part feels and relax any tension you feel. Do this until you make it to the top of your head. If you want, you can stop here by slowly opening your eyes or you can scan your body back down to your toes before stopping.
If you feel you need more help or focus, there are a ton of tools you can use. For example, if you go to YouTube you will find guided mediations you can do. These are nice since they are led by someone and you simply listen and follow along. These are especially helpful if you find your focus wanning often.
There are also several apps for meditation as well as books, and DVD’s, and video steaming options.
While the grief you are experiencing is hard, know that you will get through it. It may take a while and there may be ups and downs, but you are strong and you can do this. Grieving in a healthy way can help. Mediating is simply one way you can let your mind and body take a break. Sitting quietly for even just 5-10 minutes focusing on your breath other than your grief can have tremendous benefits.
